Since 2001 the
University of
Naples Federico II and the IRPI Research Institute of the Italian National Research Council (CNR) have been cooperating by organizing national/international workshops and conferences which have involved numerous students and researchers from different fields. This group of researchers, with the
University of
Rome “La Sapienza” , the Center H2CU and the
University of
Tuscia , has now promoted the
School of
Statistical Hydrology with the aim of teaching short courses on statistical topics useful for hydrological applications.
The short course consists of theoretical lectures (3 hours per day in the morning) and practical training sessions in a computer room (3 hours per day in the afternoon). It is aimed at providing students with an occasion to learn the theoretical background of time series analysis and to carry out empirical applications using two packages: S-plus and R. At the end of the week, the students will present their own analyses on real data sets which summarize all the activities developed during the course. They will, finally, receive the collection of programs and routines (written in R) used for the empirical applications together with a selection of the teaching material and data sets.
The short course is mainly for PhD students, but graduate students, post-doctoral students, young researchers and whoever is interested in the proposed topic are welcome. A limited number of students can be admitted to the course (30-35 people).
