International Master 2009/10 with fellowships

2. Agroecology and Organic Farming

The courses are thought completely in English language for international students coming from all the World. The courses at TUSCIA UNIVERSITY (Viterbo, 90 km North of Rome ) will start on October 6, 2009.

The University of Tuscia (Italy) as an International “hub” of Italian academic programs on agro-environmental problems in Urban and peri-urban areas for a sustainable rural development

The University of Tuscia (Italy) will launch in the next academic year (2009/2010) a highly innovative International Laurea Magistrale.

Given in English language, it offers to Italian, European and extra-European students an academic program developed in collaboration with academic institutions in Italy, Europe and United States.

Students can be awarded with two degrees: Laurea Magistrale and Master of Science, US.

The aim of the Laurea Magistrale in “Ecological Sciences for Rural Land and Large Urban Areas” is to provide students with enough skills for promoting a sustainable management of rural environment and urban areas. Nowadays it is important to improve the right perception of nature and human activities  in the face of an increase of human population and concentration, nourishment needs and technological applications. Too often ungovernable environmental and social impacts in term of exploitation of natural resources, pollution and social inequality pave the way of the ongoing human development.

The goal of the program is to prepare young professionals able to understand the complexity of environmental and social crises due to the conflict between rural and urban areas.

This international program is characterized by two curricula:

I) US Curriculum  “Environmental Science for Large Urban Areas” ;

II) European Curriculum “Agroecology and Organic Farming”.

The curriculum “Environmental Science for Large Urban Areas” is developed as a dual degree in collaboration with PACE University of New York. The students will spend the first year in Italy at University of Tuscia and the second year in US at PACE University. At the end of the program the students will have two degrees : Laurea Magistrale and Master of Science. The Honor Center of Italian University (H2CU) provides 15 fellowships to Italian students to fund the registration fee and the accommodation for the 2nd year in New York.

The  Curriculum “Agroecology and Organic Farming” is developed in collaboration with an European network of high level Universities (ENOAT, European Network of Organic Agriculture Teachers) where are involved among others: UMB, Norway; SLU; Sweden; ISARA, France.

Fellowships from Erasmus program will be available to fund students for spending 3-6 months abroad (during the second year) . Furthermore Summer Courses (2-3 weeks long) will be yearly organized within the ENOA network.

Internships will be available at local institutions and companies.

L’Università della Tuscia “hub” internazionale della formazione italiana per le problematiche agro-ambientali in area urbana e peri-urbana e per uno sviluppo rurale sostenibile

L’Università degli Studi della Tuscia presenta per il nuovo anno accademico 2009/2010 una Laurea Magistrale Internazionale fortemente innovativa. Tenuta in lingua inglese offre agli studenti italiani, europei ed extra-europei un percorso formativo con esperienze didattiche in Italia, in Europa e negli Stati Uniti. E’ previsto che lo studente possa acquisire due titoli: Laurea Magistrale Italiana e Master of Science USA.

Il Corso di Laurea Magistrale (dal titolo "Ecological Sciences for Rural Land and Large Urban Areas") si pone l’obiettivo di fornire una specializzazione delle conoscenze per la gestione sostenibile dell'ambiente rurale e delle aree metropolitane. Si evidenzia l'esigenza di riesaminare la giusta percezione della natura e delle attività umane alla luce delle sempre crescenti necessità di tipo alimentare, industriale e del conseguente impatto ambientale e sociale in termini di distruzione delle risorse naturali, di crescente inquinamento e di crescente disuguaglianza sociale.

L’obiettivo è formare professionisti capaci di capire la complessità delle crisi ambientali e sociali causate dal conflitto città-campagna e capaci di formulare soluzioni in termini di sviluppo sostenibile.

Tale corso di laurea ha una forte impronta internazionale e offre agli studenti due possibili percorsi didattici:

I Curriculum americano “Environmental Science for Large Urban Areas” ;

II Curriculum europeo “Agroecology and Organic Farming”.

Il Curriculum “Environmental Science for Large Urban Areas” è svolto in collaborazione con la PACE University di New York ed è strutturato come "Dual Degree". E' previsto che lo studente svolga il I anno a Viterbo ed il II anno a Pleasentville - New York City (USA). Lo studente che completa l'intero percorso didattico riceverà 2 titoli: Laurea Magistrale italiana e Master of Science USA; Il Centro Interuniversitario di Formazione Internazionale (H2CU), di cui l'Università della Tuscia fa parte, sosterrà gli studenti italiani con 15 borse di studio utili a coprire le rette di iscrizione e i costi per l'alloggio per il II anno a New York.

Il Curriculum “Agroecology and Organic Farming” e' svolto nell’ambito di una rete di Università Europee ad alto livello di competenza (ENOAT, European Network of Organic Agriculture Teachers)  dove operano istituzioni universitarie quali UMB, Norway; SLU; Sweden; ISARA, France. E’ prevista la mobilità di studenti verso le Università partner europee con borse di studio ( da un minimo tre di mesi ad un massimo di sei mesi, nel secondo anno di studio) nell’ambito del programma Erasmus. E’ prevista inoltre la partecipazione degli studenti a Summer Courses intensivi ( 2-3 settimane) organizzati annualmente nell’ambito della rete ENOAT. Le scienze agroecologiche sono insegnate come  base scientifica ed epistemologica per l’esercizio dell’agricoltura biologica in ambiente mediterraneo. E’ previsto un periodo di tirocino (placement) in aziende biologiche locali.
